Research

Research studies gather data, analyze it, and draw conclusions.  These studies vary considerably in their size and complexity.   Any research on humans requires strict privacy safeguards and Ethics Committee review.  Please review the checklist provided by UBC BREB. If you answer ‘yes’ to any items on the checklist, you must submit your project for research ethics board review. You can find Ethics application process here.

Some research topics require large sample populations to show statistical significance.  These and other factors will put some study types out of reach of Residents.  Those likely to require too much work and time are marked with an asterix.  On the other hand, some research study types are considered “minimal risk” or do not require Ethics Review, which are well-within the possibility of a Resident Scholar Project.   All research studies must include a review and critical analysis of existing relevant literature. The evaluation criteria for these are on the website.
